Friday at the Open and the Rory Late Show

He may have left his run late but it was enough to get through to the weekend. Rory McIlroy birdied three of his last four holes to make the cut by two shots. No doubt promoters and sponsors were feeling a little nervous when the Irishman had an air swing on the 14th hole and subsequently bogeyed to slip outside the cutline. McIlroy then pulled the driver on the short dogleg 15th and went on to birdie that hole and then the 17th and 18th to finish on -2 and comfortably inside the cut line.

Rory’s playing partners had stellar days with Min Woo Lee carding an impressive six under 65 and Adam Scott signing for a five under 66. That left the Ozzie stars at eight and seven under respectively for the tournament. Both Lee and Scott are well placed to challenge for the title over the weekend.

McIlroy on the other hand has more work to do from his position at two under. He will need to produce two rounds of spectacular golf to once again hold aloft the Stonehaven Cup.

Whilst Rory may not have had his A game on the course over the first two days there can be no doubt that his impact on the tournament is AAA. The crowds are enormous and electric. The roars can be heard across the course and it is exciting to see the Australian Open reclaiming its place in the top echelons of world of golf.
