Weekly Wrap - Week 19

Hotel Planner Tour

Tournament: Italian Challenge Open

In Dates: 7-10 May

Course: Golf Nazionale, Viterbo, Italy

Purse: €300,000

Ozzies in the field: Sam Jones (NZ), Danny List (NZ)

In our preview of the week we said it was great to see Chris Wood in the starting lineup for the Hotelplanner Tour. The Englishman has a well documented struggle with form and mental issues and for a time gave up the game. He then went to Q school for the Mena Tour, got his card and won three times on that Tour. That result earned him a spot on the Hotelplanner Tour and in his first outing he has a victory.

In his post match interview Wood was so overwhelmed by emotion that he couldn’t answer some questions about the journey he has been on to get to this point. The former world number 22 and Ryder Cup player is the epitome of guts and determination and what a great story and fantastic win.

The win puts Wood in 6th place on the Road to Mallorca with about half the points needed to secure a DP World Tour card for next year.

Chris Wood 1st - €48,000
