What's on This Week - Week 12

The final push for LET glory for our Ozzie women. The B team (according to Brian Rolapp) get to play this week on the PGA Tour and The Asian Swing starts on the DP World Tour.

WEEK 12 – WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK

LET & WPGA

Tournament: Australian WPGA Championship

Dates: 19-22 March

Course: Sanctuary Cove Palms Course

Purse: AUD $600,000

Ozzies in the field: Hannah Green, Steph Kyriacou, Kelsey Bennett, Kirsten Rudgeley, Madison Hinson-Tolchard, Justice Bosio, Steph Bunque, and lots more.

The fourth and final co-sanctioned event of the WPGA and Ladies European Tour (LET). Hannah Green and Steph Kyriacou have stayed on for this event and Green must be a short priced favourite given her form over the last three weeks. Kyriacou will be looking to stem the poor form and missed cuts of her recent play.

What a great time for one of our Ozzies without status for the rest of the season to get a win on the Gold Coast and add another Ozzie to the Ladies European Tour. Perhaps Hannah Reeves, Kristal Blume, Abbie Teasdale or the indominable Sarah Kemp.

The WPGA have worked tirelessly for these four events and are looking to culminate in the Festival of Golf with the message of "reimagined celebration of golf, lifestyle, and community," often described as a high-energy, inclusive event where "golf meets food, fun, fashion, and community spirit".

Another opportunity to get along and see world class golf on our home turf. It shapes to be a great end to a wonderful month of golf.

LPGA

Tournament: Fortinet Founders Cup

Dates: 19-22 March

Course: Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club

Purse: USD $3.0M

Ozzies in the field: Minjee Lee, Grace Kim, Cassie Porter, Robyn Choi, Karis Davidson, Hira Naveed, Lydia Ko (NZ)

The tournament was created to recognize the trailblazing efforts of the 13 LPGA women who founded the LPGA in 1950, including legends like Patty Berg and Marlene Bauer Hagge. The inaugural tournament held in Phoenix, Arizona, was unique as players did not take a cash payout, donating half the purse to charity and the other half to charities selected by the top 10 finishers. Australia’s Karrie Webb won that tournament. In 2012, it transitioned from a 3-day to a 4-day, 72-hole stroke play event with a regular cash purse. While long associated with Arizona, the tournament has moved in recent years, including locations in Clifton, New Jersey (Upper Montclair Country Club) and Bradenton, Florida, typically taking place in March. The big American stars can play again now that the Tour has returned to mainland USA. Nelly Korda only has to travel to the west coast so she is teeing it up this weekend. Hannah Green and Steph Kyriacou are staying in Oz to play the final WPGA event of the season at Sanctuary Cove.

Epson Tour

Tournament: Orlando Health Championship

Dates: 20-22 March

Course: Grasslands Golf & Country Club

Purse: USD $

Ozzies in the field: Jennifer Elliot,

Fiona Xu (NZ), Caitlin Peirce,

Caitlin Peirce and Jennifer Elliott looking to maintain or improve their OOM positions as they sit 16th and 48th respectively. Top 15 at the end of the season get to play in the big league. (11-15 is not so good but still gets you on the LPGA)

PGA Tour

Tournament: Valspar Championship

Dates: 19-22 March

Course: Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club - Copperhead

Purse: USD $9.1M

Ozzies in the field: Cam Davis, Karl Vilips

Brian Rolapp’s vision for a split tour with A and B divisions does not need much more work as we see another event without any of the top five in the world playing this week. Anyway it gives the B team a chance at success. Ozzies Davis and Vilips need to get out of first gear to get their seasons kick started.

PGA Champions Tour

Tournament: Cologuard Classic

Dates: 20-22 March

Course: La Paloma Country Club

Purse: USD $2.2M

Ozzies in the field: Michael Wright, Mark Hensby, Stuart Appleby, Brendan Jones, Greg Chalmers, Richard Green, Steve Allan, Steve Alker (NZ)

The old guys are back in action this week. Let’s see if someone not called Cink or Alker can have a win. (Apologies to Zac Johnson, Angel Cabrera and everyone else who has won on this tour)

DP World Tour

Tournament: Hainan Classic

Dates: 19-22 March

Course: Mission Hills

Purse: USD $2.55M

Ozzies in the field: Jason Scrivener, David Micheluzzie, Ryan Peake, Anthony Quayle, Connor McKinney

The start of the Asian swing which sees tournaments in China, India, China, and Türkiye. Another chance for our Ozzie men to get onto the front page of the leader board and earn valuable OOM points. Peake, Quayle, and McKinney need to get going in the points accumulation game to give themselves some comfort towards the back end of the season.
