What's on This Week - Week 24

The Curtis Cup

Dates: 12-14 June

Course: Bel-Air Country Club, Los Angeles, CA

Every two years the best female amateurs from USA and Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) come up against each other in this Ryder Cup style competition. This year it is the turn of the USA to host and it is a Bel-Air CC in LA. Both teams comprise a mix of returnees from 2924 and rookies. Beth Coulter and Patience Rhodes return for team GB&I and for the USA Jasmine Koo, Anna Davis and Asterisk Talley back up from 2024.

On paper the USA, with all their team ranked in the top 35 on the WAGR, should trounce GB&I (one player in top 35) but we all know what happens in these team events between Europe and USA – paper form does not always translate to team performance.

The final nine holes of the 2024 Curtis cup at Sunningdale is some of the best golf you can ever watch. Future stars like Lotte Woad, Mimi Rhodes, Sarah Byrne and Lauren Walsh fighting tooth and nail against their more highly ranked US opposition. There is a documentary titled Rising – Inside the Curtis Cup.

LPGA

Tournament: Dow Championship

Dates: 11 – 14 June

Course: Midland Country Club, Midland, MI

Purse: USD $3.3M

Ozzies in the field: Steph Kyriacou (Jennifer Chang), Robyn Choi (Jenny Bai), Gabbi Ruffels (Lucy Li), Hira Naveed (Gurleen Kaur), Sarah Kemp (Maude-Aimee Leblanc), Lydia Ko (NZ),

This is the teams event of the LPGA with rounds 1 & 3 foursomes (alternate shot) and rounds 2 & 4 bestball. It looks like Nelly Korda is going to have a much more relaxed week than she just had at Riveria. The world no. 1 is teamed with Olivia Cowan and already the pair are producing some fun content.

EPSON TOUR

Tournament: FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship

Dates: 12-14 June

Course: The Medalist Golf Club, Marshall, MI

Purse: USD $200,000

Ozzies in the field: Jennifer Elliot, Caitlin Peirce, Su Oh, Jess Whitting, Fiona Xu (NZ)

A tournament that has been good to Ozzies with Cassie Porter winning here in 2024.

LETAS

Tournament: Raiffeisenbank Czech Ladies Challenge

Dates: 12 – 14 June

Course: Panorama Golf Resort, Kacov

Purse: €50,000

Ozzies in the field: Kristalle Blum, Amy Walsh, Hannah Reeves, Munchin Keh (NZ), Wenyung Keh (NZ)

Kristalle Blum is coming off her best finish on the Letas Tour so it will be good to see if she can build on last week’s success.

PGA Tour

Tournament: RBC Canadian Open

Dates: 12- 14 June

Course: TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley – North Course

Purse: USD $9.8M

Ozzies in the field: Cam Davis, Karl Vilips, Declan O’Donovan, Ryan Fox (NZ)

Declan O’Donovan gets a start here courtesy of his win in the Canadian Amateur. Great to see him tee it up on the PGA Tour.

Another non signature event and it is also the week before the US Open so those players preferring practice over play are not in Canada this week. Only four of the worlds top ten are teeing it up in Toronto so as always that gives the others a chance. Cam Davis desperately needs some good golf to turn his year around.

Korn Ferry Tour

At some point the wight of numbers must mean an Ozzie win on this tour.

Hotel Planner Tour

Tournament: Interwetten Open

Course: Schladming-Dachstein Golf Club, Oberhaus

Purse: €300,000

Ozzies in the field: Daniel Gale, Dimi Papadatos, Haydn Barron, Quinnton Croker, Hayden Hopewell, Sam Jones (NZ)

Haydn Barron going along very nicely and working his way up the OOM, no doubt aiming for on of the top fifteen spots that get promotion to the main tour. Dimi Papadatos also had a decent outing last week so interesting to see if he can repeat that form.

Legends Tour

Tournament: Costa Navarino Legends Tour Trophy

Dates: 11-13 June

Course: Costa Navarino

Purse:€??

Ozzies in the field: Peter Fowler, Michael Campbell (NZ)

Perhaps the most casual and also covert tour in existence. They don’t play much and they don’t tell you much about it.
