The playoffs are here and there should be plenty of excitement on the PGA Tour. Jason Day misses the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Rory McIlroy is back and is paired with Scottie Scheffler for the first two rounds.

This is what the golfing world wants to see. The best two golfers in the world going head to head plus Fleetwood and Spieth, Min Woo Lee and Chris Gotterup, Ryan Fox and Adam Scott – what great viewing.

Tournament: Standard Portland Classic

Dates: 13-16 August

Course: Edgewater Country Club

Purse: USD $2.0M

Ozzies in the field: Kim, Steph Kyriacou, Robyn Choi, Karis Davidson, Gabbi Ruffels, Hira Naveed

The LPGA is back after the European swing and this field goes deep, and not in a top ten in the world sense. Anyone with any type of status probably gets a start in Portland. 2025 number 129th OOM ranked Xiaowen Yin rounds out the field. Top Ozzies Hannah Green and Minjee Lee are skipping Portland as is Cassie Porter.

Tournament: VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open

Dates: 13-15 August

Course: Migros golfpark Holzhausen, Zug

Purse:€350,000

Ozzies in the field: Madison Hinson-Tolchard, Justice Bosio, Steph Bunque, Sarah Kemp, Amelia Garvey (NZ), Momoka Kobori (NZ), Whitney Hillier, Belinda Ji, Amy Walsh

The two top ranked Ozzies, Kelsey Bennett and Kirsten Rudgeley giving Switzerland a miss but still plenty of Ozzie representation with Sarah Kemp, Whitney Hillier, Belinda Ji, and Amy Walsh all getting a start.

Like the LPGA the field draws down to Q school finishers so a wonderful opportunity for the likes of Walsh, Hillier and Ji to tee it up on the main tour.

Tournament: Ladies Slovak Golf Open

Dates: 12-14 August

Course: TALE Ski Golf & Hotel Resort

Purse: €50,000

No regular Ozzies this week as Kristalle Blum takes a rest back home and again Hannah Reeves is MIA following her win a few weeks ago.

Another chance for the Ozzie old guys to get the big W.

DP World Tour

Tournament: Danish Golf Championship

Course: Great Northern, Kerteminde, Funen

Ozzies in the field: Jason Scrivener, David Micheluzzie, Ryan Peake, Anthony Quayle, Connor McKinney, Jack Buchanan

The start of eleven straight weeks of golf on the DP World Tour leading into the Playoffs in November. The Ozzies should start in all eleven however some may not get into the Rolex BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. Kiwi’s Dan Hillier and Kazuma Kobori not playing this week.

Hotel Planner Tour

Tournament: Irish Challenge

Dates: 13-16 August

Course: Killeen Castle, Co. Meath

Purse: €300,000

If you weren’t playing to break even this would be an amazing tour. Scotland last week, Ireland this week, Finland then Sweden coming up in a really solid block of tournaments. Disappointing not to see Daniel Gale after his good result last week but no doubt he has the remainder of the season planned out and hopefully he is back in the entry list soon.

Sunshine Tour

Tournament: FNB Eswatini Challenge

Dates: 13-15 August

Course: Ezulwini Golf & Country Club

Purse: R500,000

Amateur Tournaments

US Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club

One of the great men’s amateur tournaments in the world. Two strokeplay rounds then a cut to the top 64 (no ties) followed by matchplay to decide the winner. Two Ozzies, Kayun Mudadana and Harry Takis entered but unfortunately missed the cut. Zachary Swanwick finished T16 to advance and Kiwi Joshua Bai found himself in a 16 man playoff for 11 spots. He survived by birdiing the first playoff hole. Luke Poulter, son of The Postman Ian Poulter, also survived the playoff to get into the matchplay. The round of 64 gets underway in the early hours of Ozzie Thursday with the 36 hole final scheduled for early Monday morning Ozzie time.
