What’s on This Week - Week 34

Phillip Gibson

Week two of the PGA Tour playoffs and a big week in Canada for the LPGA. Could this be the last hurrah for LIV Golf?

What’s on This Week - Week 34

PGA Tour

Tournament: BMW Championship

Dates: 20-23 august

Course: Bellerive Country Club, St Louis

Purse: USD $20.0M

Ozzies in the field: Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott, Ryan Fox (NZ)

More big dollars for the big dogs of the PGA Tour. Adam Scott needs a good week to advance to the Tour Championship but we expect that he is happy with where he sits having qualified in the top fifty and getting starts in all the signature events next season.

Last year Scottie Scheffler went back to back in the first two playoff events and he has the first leg of that result in the bag this year. No one came close to him last week so if that form continues it will be another snooze fest as we don’t even have the bubble of signature event qualification to keep us awake.

LPGA

Tournament: CPKC Women’s Open

Dates: 20-23 August

Course: Royal Mayfair Golf Club

Purse: USD $2.75M

Ozzies in the field: Minjee Lee, Hannah Green, Grace Kim, Steph Kyriacou, Cassie Porter, Robyn Choi, Karis Davidson, Gabbi Ruffels, Hira Naveed, Lydia Ko (NZ)

The last event for the USA players to automatically qualify for the Solheim Cup. So far six players have mathematically qualified via the points list, and this event will determine the final spot from that list which will come down to Allisen Corpuz or Andrea Lee. There are two spots from the World Rankings, and they are currently held by Andrea Lee (37th) and Allisen Corpuz (43rd). Sitting behind them are Alison Lee (59th), Lindy Duncan (61st), Jenny Bae (65th), and Rose Zhang (66th). Then there will be the three captains picks from Angela Stanford.

Apart from the Solheim Cup intrigue there is a great golf tournament to play. All our Ozzies are back this week.

Also invites for Canadian young gun Anna Huang and USA young star Kiara Romero.

EPSON TOUR

Tournament: Wildhorse Ladies Classic

Dates: 21-23 August

Course: Wildhorse Golf Course

Purse: USD $250,000

Ozzies in the field: Jennifer Elliot, Caitlin Peirce

Elliott and Peirce sit at no. 26 and 27 respectively on the OOM ranking so need to get some good results in the last five tournaments to move into the top 15 who get LPGA cards for next season.

Korn Ferry Tour

Tournament: Advent Health Championship

Dates: 20-23 August

Course: Blue Hills country Club Kansas City

Purse: USD $1.0M

Ozzies in the field: Rhein Gibson

Ozzies in the field: Steve Allan, Steve Alker (NZ), Stuart Appleby, David Bansdon, Greg Chalmers, Richard Green, Mark Hensby, Rod Pampling, John Senden, Michael Wright

Richard Green is back to defend his title won last year. Stewart Cink is having a week off so maybe the field has a chance.

DP World Tour

Tournament: Nexo Championship

Dates: 20-23 August

Course: Trump Internation Golf Links, Aberdeenshire

Purse: € USD $3.0M

Ozzies in the field: Jason Scrivener, David Micheluzzie, Ryan Peake, Anthony Quayle, Connor McKinney, Jack Buchanan, Kazuma Kobori (NZ)

The last tournament of the closing swing. There is a lot of benefits for winning this swing including entry into all the back 9 events and a $200,000 bonus. The two leaders, Stefano Mazzoli and Jeff Winther, are not playing so it’s wide open for the likes of Todd Clements or Filippo Celli to grab that top spot.

For all those players sitting in the 70-120 spots in the rankings it’s about this time of year to start watching where they sit. After this week there are nine tournaments in the back 9 swing and as each one passes the pressure will mount on those close to the all important 100 position. So time for some of our Ozzies to find the form we know they possess and get up those rankings.

Could this be the final ever LIV Golf tournament? It is certainly the last tournament for 2026 with the official announcement that the usual season finale teams event has been cancelled. Elvis Smylie is still out injured and is again replaced by Travis Smyth. VALE LIV Golf 1.0
