PGA Tour

Tournament: The Tour Championship

Dates: 27-30 August

Course: East Lakes Golf Club, Atlanta, GA

Purse: USD $40M

Ozzies in the field: Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott, Ryan Fox (NZ)

The biggest tournament of the PGA Tour season and two Ozzies are teeing it up. Adam Scott's longevity just keeps keeping on and by finishing in the top 30 this season he has guaranteed his playing status for the next two years, including entry into another bunch of majors. Could this be the week Min Woo Lee breaks loose ?

The thirty richest players are playing for USD $40M and the title of Fedex Champion. The Tour has announced a revamp for 2028 which is long overdue. The introduction of the matchplay format in 2028 can’t come soon enough.

WPGA

Tournament: PNG Women’s Open

Dates: 29-30 August

Course: Royal Port Moresby Golf Club

Purse: AUD $20,000

The Ozzie season is back ! Only six Ozzie women are making the trip to Port Moresby and the total field is 15 but the season is underway. The women's tournament is only 36 holes and starts on Saturday.

Ozziegolf's pick for this one is Katherine Norris who was runner-up last year.

PGA Tour of Australasia

Tournament: PNG Open

Dates: 27-30 August

Course: Royal Port Moresby Golf Club

Purse: AUD $225,000

The Ozzie men also kick off in PNG this week. The men’s field is stacked. No doubt players looking to get a good start to the season and earn valuable OOM points. Eight of the USA qualifiers have come over for this tournament and what a surprise Port Moresby might be for them. The field is headlined by Daniel Gale, Will Florimo, Declan O'Donovan, James Marchesani and Jordan Doull plus a host of other great Ozzie players.

LPGA

Tournament: FM Championship

Dates: 27-30 August

Course: TPC Boston

Purse: USD $4.4M

Ozzies in the field: Minjee Lee, Hannah Green, Grace Kim, Steph Kyriacou, Cassie Porter, Robyn Choi, Karis Davidson, Gabi Ruffels

The last tournament for the LPGA before the Solheim Cup when the majority of the top players will get three weeks off. Minjee Lee has been in terrible form lately so hopefully one of the stars of Ozzie golf can turn it around in Boston.

With only this week and then seven more tournaments until the season ending Tour Championship the Race to CME Globe starts to get serious. Hannah Green, Grace Kim, and Minjee Lee have ongoing status due to wins. The rest of the Ozzies are trying to finish in the top 80 to keep their playing status for next year.

Cassie Porter (43rd) and Karis Davidson (56th) look safe. Robyn Choi at 66th should be ok but for Gabi Ruffels (139th), Hira Naveed (173rd), and Steph Kyriacou (183rd) they are really going to have to pull something out of the bag to have full status next season.

EPSON TOUR

Tournament: Dream First Bank Charity Classic

Dates: 28-30 August

Course: Buffalo Dunes Golf Course, Garden City, KS

Purse: USD $200,000

Ozzies in the field: Jennifer Elliot, Caitlin Peirce

Caitlin Peirce has been threatening a win for a couple of tournaments but has just failed to bring it home in the final round. Hopefully her good form can continue this week.

There are only three tournaments left in the regular season and then the Epson Tour Championships which carries extra points so both Peirce (24th) and Jennifer Elliott (29th) need something like top 10 finishes or better to move up the OOM. Top ten get status in Category 9 on the LPGA and 11-15 also get status but in category 16.

Remember that in 2024 Cassie Porter scraped into 10th place on the Epson Tour OOM and has not looked back since, making nearly USD $1M over the next two seasons.

LET

Tournament: KPMG Women’s Irish Open

Dates: 27-30 August

Course: K Club (Palmer South course)

Purse:€450,000

Ozzies in the field: Kelsey Bennett, Kirsten Rudgeley, Madison Hinson-Tolchard, Justice Bosio, Steph Bunque, Sarah Kemp, Amelia Garvey (NZ), Momoka Kobori (NZ), Whitney Hillier, Belinda Ji

Like the LPGA, this is the last tournament before a three week break for the Solheim Cup.

As well as our usual Ozzie LET players, interest this week is with Whitney Hillier following her great T2 at her last start. Hillier will need another top ten finish to get into the next tournament as she is currently on the reserves list.

Sitting at 65th on the OOM Hillier is fighting hard to get back her full status for next season after a prolonged absence due to illness.

PGA Champions Tour

Tournament: The Ally Challenge

Dates: 28-30 August

Course: Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club

Purse: USD $2,2M

Ozzies in the field: Steve Allan, Steve Alker (NZ), Stuart Appleby, Greg Chalmers, Richard Green, Scott Hend, Mark Hensby, John Senden, Michael Wright, David Bransdon (1st alternate)

Last week a kiwi got the win so must be time for an Ozzie win. Tournaments are running out to secure OOM spots for next year.

No Q school on the old guys tour means you have to finish in the top 36 to secure playing rights for next season. In reality probably positions 37-45 get plenty of starts but for some Ozzies they need some good results to get into those spots.
