Tournament: The Solheim Cup

This is the best women’s golf event of the calendar. The cream of Europe and USA’s players will come together at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands to fight out the 20th edition of the Solheim Cup.

USA go in as favourites on paper if you only consider LPGA OOM and Rolex World Ranking points. Those two indices ignore the critical factor in this format of golf – TEAM.

In both men’s and women’s team golf over the last twenty years the team spirit of Europe has gone a long way to overcoming the ranking superiority of USA teams. Just look at the result of the Walker Cup today. What a stirring victory.

Add in to the mix that this year it is on home soil for the Europeans and they will enjoy the majority of the crowd support. Europe are hungry to avenge the loss in Virginia two years ago.

EPSON TOUR

Tournament: Guardian Championship

Dates: 11-13 September

Course: RTJ Golf Trail at Capitol HILL

Purse: USD $250,000

Our Ozzie women have had some particularly good starts to tournaments recently without being able to finish strongly. It feels like a top five or top three result, or dare we dare to dream, a WIN, is just around the corner for Caitlin Peirce or Jennifer Elliott.

LETAS

Tournament: Hauts de France Pas de Calais Golf Open

Dates: 19-12 September

Course: Golf Saint Omer

Purse: €42,500

Ozzies in the field: Hannah Reeves, Belinda Ji

Hannah Reeves is back for her first start since winning the Pitch 15 Open in late July. Reeves currently sits at number 12 on the LETAS order of merit and will be looking to for some high finishes to push into the top seven at seasons end. With that result she would earn an automatic promotion to the LET.

Reeves is currently entered into the next five tournaments through to the end of October After that there are two tournaments in Spain to round out the season. No doubt she will assess her situation after this next block of events and decide if she will play in those final two tournaments.

If she can’t achieve top seven in the OOM she will be off to the grind of Q school at the end of the year.

DP World Tour

Tournament: Amgen Irish Open

Dates: 10-13 September

Course: Trump International Golf Links & Hotel, Doonbeg, Ireland

Purse: USD $6.0M

Ozzies in the field: Jason Scrivener, David Micheluzzie, Dan Hillier (NZ), Kazuma Kobori (NZ)

Many of the Ozzies don’t qualify to enter this prestigious event. This week sees Rory McIlroy, Tyrell Hatton, Jon Rahm, Bob Macintyre, Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, Joaquin Niemann, Shane Lowry, Sepp Straka, Luke Donald, Tom McKibbin, Padraig Harrington and Rasmus & Nicolai Hojgaard all playing as the DP World works its way into the high end back nine events and then the playoffs. This leaves little room for our guys in the lower categories.

Alex Fitzpatrick is back to the DP World Tour following his stellar performances in America. Laurie Canter is also teeing it up this week, possibly having to get used to life on the European Tour again.

Popular Podcast Host Eddie Pepperell gets a start, along with nine others due to their current season ranking.

The DP World Tour will be the golf to watch as we move into the back end of they year. With LIV players pondering their future and looking for a home and the big money and points events looming the fields will be good and the golf should be excellent.

Hotel Planner Tour

Tournament: English Trophy

Dates: 10-13 September

Course: The Caversham, Reading

Purse: €250,000

Ozzies in the field: Anthony Quayle, Daniel Gale, Haydn Barron, Danny List, Sam Jones (NZ)

Anthony Quayle is making a surprise appearance on the HotelPlanner Tour this week. His form on the main tour has not been good so maybe he is trying to work a few things out given he did not get entry into the Irish Open.

Korn Ferry Tour

Tournament: Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation

Dates: 10-13 September

Course: Vanderbilt Legends Club, North Course, Franklin TN

Purse: USD $1.5M

Ozzies in the field: Rhein Gibson

Now we get the pointy end of the season for the KF Tour guys. The playoffs start this week and the end of these next four tournaments the twenty players at the top of the OOM get to play with the big boys on the PGA Tour next season.

For this first playoff event the field is 156. Next week that reduces to 132 for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. After a week break the top 100 will contest the Compliance Solution championship.

The season culminates at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship contested by the top 60 players. There, the top 20 players earn PGA Tour membership. The no. 1 player on the points list also gets entry to the 2027 US Open and The Players Championship. The rest of the field earn full KF Tour status for 2027 and are not subject to re-shuffles.

Rhein Gibson just sneaks into the first week but will have to do a lot more than he has shown lately to progress to the next playoff event.

PGA Champions Tour

Tournament: Sanford International

Dates: 11-13 September

Course: Minnehaha Country Club, Sioux Falls

Purse: USD $2.2M

Ozzies in the field: Steve Allan, David Bansdon (1st reserve), Greg Chalmers, Scott Hend, Mark Hensby, Rod Pampling, John Senden, Michael Wright

Steve Alker is giving everyone a chance by taking a break after winning three weeks in a row. Alker won the last two Champions Tour events and then last week popped over to Northern Ireland to win the Legends Tour tournament.

Michael Block continues his quest for full playing rights next season and Greg Chalmers will be hoping to continue his good form which saw a T# finish last week.

Japan Tour
