What's on This Week - Week 41

LET

Tournament: Aramco Korea Championship

Dates: 8-11 October

Course: New Korea Country Club

Purse:USD $2.0M

Ozzies in the field: Kelsey Bennett, Justice Bosio, Steph Bunque, Sarah Kemp, Momoka Kobori (NZ)

Some big names with Asia connections are playing this week in Korea. Alison Lee from USA whose parents both are Korean, Jeongeun Lee6, Hyo Joo Kim, and Japan’s Miyu Yamashita.

Most of our regular Ozzies are teeing it up including Sarah Kemp who is playing her 13th LET tournament this season and sits 74th on the OOM. The top 70 at the end of the season get full playing rights and although Kemp calls the USA home, she does not have any playing status stateside so may be looking to give Europe another season if she can get into the top seventy.

Steph Bunque will be looking for a couple of solid weeks as she also sits outside the top seventy on the OOM. She sits at no. 84 and currently can only play this tournament and the next in India due to limited entries in the final three tournaments. She needs to ascend into the top 70 and then hopefully hang on through to the end of the season.

LETAS

Tournament: Terre Blanche Ladies Open

Dates: 8-10 October

Course: Golf de Terre Blanche

Purse: €45,000

Ozzies in the field: Kristalle Blum, Hannah Reeves, Belinda Ji.

For Ozzie golf fans this tournament should be on the radar. Young gun Hannah Reeves sits just three spots outside the top seven and the automatic promotion to the LET at seasons end. This tournament is the start of a three-week block and Reeves is entered in all three.

The LETAS then has a three week break before the final two, limited field events, to close out the season. Reeves is not currently entered and may just be waiting to see her results from the next three events to work out her programme.

PGA Tour of Australasia

Tournament: CKB WA PGA Championship presented by TX Civil & Logistics

Dates: 8-11 October

Course: Kalgoorlie Golf Course

Purse: AUD $250,000

Ozzies in the field: Heaps

The Challenger PGA Tour of Australia gets underway in earnest this week in the red dirt of Western Australia. Kalgoorlie is one of the most distinctive courses in Australia with the green fairways laid out between the red dirt of the desert.

Kalgoorlie GC has signed up for another five years so if they haven’t already, players need to get familiar with the course because they will be back here until 2031.

Declan O’Donovan is a player who stands out here but he will be arriving late after playing the Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews last week. Likewise Matias Sanchez, James Marchesani, Ryan Peake and Jack Buchanan are all rushing back from Scotland. Of those we would pick O’Donovan as the most likely to shine.

Of the others Coby Carruthers and Darcy Brereton have shown glimpses of excellent form and Daniel Gale has gained plenty of experience playing the HotelPlanner Tour.

At Ozziegolf we think Nathan Barbieri is due for a win. He came agonisingly close a couple of times last season so we think he is going to get the job done this time around. Whether it’s this week or somewhere else we are not sure but it is not going to surprise anyone if he is at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon.

PGA Tour

Tournament: Baycurrent Classic

Dates: 8-11 October

Course: Yokohama Country Club, Yokohama, Japan

Purse: USD $8.0M

Ozzies in the field: Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott

As well as out two big name Ozzies there are a number of other high profile players making the trip to Japan this week. Michael Kim, Rasmus Neergaard Petersen, Keith Mitchell, Billy Horshcel, Jordan Spieth, Sungjai Im, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Justin Thomas, Wyndham Clark and of course home town hero Hideki Matsuyama.

Normal Fall Season scheduling will return in two weeks in Bermuda.

Korn Ferry Tour

Tournament: Korn Ferry Tour Championship

Dates: 8-11 October

Course: The Federal Club, Glen Allen

Purse: USD $1.5M

Ozzies in the field: NIL

Whilst there are no Ozzies in the field we have been tracking the Korn Ferry Finals to see who grabs those 20 Tour cards for next season.

Also of interest is who finishes as no. 1 as that spot carries entry to The Players and probably the US Open. currently Scotsman Sandy Scott has a slender 23 point lead over American Ross Steelman.

PGA Champions Tour

Tournament: Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS

Dates: 9-11 October

Course: Ocean Course at Hammock Beach

Purse: USD $2.2M

Ozzies in the field: Steve Allan, Steve Alker (NZ), Stuart Appleby, Greg Chalmers, Matthew Goggin, Richard Green, Scott Hend, Mark Hensby, Rod Pampling, Michael Wright

The penultimate event before the three tournament Charles Schwab Cup Playoff events. So plenty to play for in terms of points and climbing up the OOM to ensure end of season play.

There has not been an Ozzie win on this tour this year and outside the Americans we hve the largest contingent of players. One week it will happen ?

DP World Tour

Tournament: Open de Espana presented by Madrid

Dates: 8-11 October

Course: Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, Madrid, Spain

Purse: USD $3.75M

Ozzies in the field: Jason Scrivener, David Micheluzzie, Dan Hillier (NZ), Kazuma Kobori (NZ), Elvis Smylie

One of the premier National Opens this week in Madrid. Unfortunately the biggest Spanish star Jon Rahm has had to pull out due to the imminent birth of his fourth child. However Sergio Garcia will be playing as well as David Puig and Jose Ballester./

Popular podcast co-host has received an invite which will give him a chance to play his way back inside the top 100.

Hotel Planner Tour

Tournament: Hainan Open

Dates: 8-11 October

Course: Sanya Luhuitou GC, Donghai Bay, Sany, Hainan Island, China

Purse: USD $500,000

Ozzies in the field: Kuangyu Chen

Unfortunately none of our regular Ozzies on this tour have made it to these limited field end of season tournaments. Kuangyu Chen is playing on an invite.

Sunshine Tour

Tournament: The Fortress Invitational

Dates: 8-11 October

Course: Houghton Golf Club

Purse: R500,000

Ozzies in the field: Austin Batista

Bautista currently sits second on the OOM and whilst there is along way to go until the end of the season in March 2027 he will be looking to keep on having good results to try and secure one of the European cards at the end of the season.
