WEEK 43 – WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK
Week 43 and still plenty of action in the world of golf. Slightly different week on the LPGA with a teams event in South Korea. DP World Tour is also in South Korea for the last event of the regular season. A big week for a couple of Ozzies who are trying to get a PGA card or at the other end of the spectrum – hanging on to remain on tour. The LET is also in Asia at Taiwan and with not many regular season events left it’s getting tight for those on the OOM bubble. WPGA and AusPGA are both at the Webex event in Adelaide. PGA Tour moves to Utah and Champions Tour hits the penultimate event of the year with still plenty of Ozzie (and Kiwi) players in the field.
LPGA
Tournament: Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown
Dates: 23-26 October
Course: New Korea Country Club
Purse: USD $2.00M
Ozzies in the field: Minjee Lee, Hannah Green, Steph Kyriacou, Grace Kim
This is a teams matchplay tournament played between 8 teams. The teams are seeded and divided into two pools In Pool A - USA Australia, Thailand, China. In pool B - Japan Korea, Sweden, and a World Team.
There are three days of fourball bestball competition and the top 2 teams from each pool progress to the semifinal. The semifinals and finals are a combination of 2 x singles matches and one foursomes match.
Epson Tour
Epsom Tour has concluded but no doubt many of those who did not secure a top 15 spot on the Order of Merit and an LPGA card will be playing Q school qualifying stage.
LET
Tournament: Wistron Ladies Open
Dates: 23-26 October (reduced to 54 holes – 24-26 October)
Course: Sunrise Golf and Country Club Taiwan
Purse:USD $1.0M
Ozzies in the field: Kelsey Bennet, Amelia Garvey (NZ), Momoka Kobori (NZ)
As we near the end of the LET season this is really a chance for those in the top 70 to cement their place in the Order of Merit. With entries limited for regular LET Members due to lots of national spots allocated there is no opportunity for those outside the top 70 to push their way up the Order of Merit. Plenty of top names in the field including Three-time winner Mimi Rhodes and two-time individual winners this season, Lottie Woad, Shannon Tan, Sara Kouskova and Anna Huang. Kelsey Bennet gets a start courtesy of an invite. Kelsey has had a solid year, and it seems she’s close to breaking through. A win here would top off a great first full-time season on the LET.
LETAS
LETAS has concluded but no doubt many of those who did not secure a top 7 spot on the Order of Merit and an LET card will be playing Q school pre-qualifying stage.
WPGA
Tournament: Webex Players Series SA hosted by Greg Blewett
Dates: 23-26 October
Course: Willunga Golf Course
Purse:AUD $200,000
The first of the Webex Series events for the season. Once again this will be a great series where men and women compete for the same trophy and prize money. Top contenders from the women’s side include Justice Bosio, Abbie Teasdale, and young gun Hannha Reeves who has a perfect record as a professional golfer having won her first 2 events. Can she make it 3 from 3.
PGA Tour
Tournament: Bank of Utah Championship
Dates: 23-26 October
Course: Black Desert Resort
Purse:USD $6.0M
Ozzies in the field: Jason Day,Harrison Enycott, Karl Vilips
Fourth last tournament of the season for players to climb into the top 100 and keep their playing rights. There are 5 players from the top 50 of the FedEx standings who have not much to achieve here except make some extra cash. Maverick McNealy, Kurt Kitayama, Tom Hoge, Ryan Gerand and Jason Day tee it up. They deny some lower placed players a chance to play and I’m not sure why they can play these fall events when their next season is secure and they’ve all made a lot of money along the way. There is a lot on the line for players like Max Homa who sits at 100 in the FedEx cup ranking so he and others in similar positions need to keep playing well through to the end of the season.
Korn Ferry Tour
With the Korn Ferry Tour finishing last week you can catch KF players heading to various stages of Q School. See our Q school schedule HERE
PGA Champions Tour
Tournament: Simmons Bank Championship
Dates: 24-26 October
Course: Pleasant Valley Country Club Little Rock Arkansas
Purse: USD $2.3M
Ozzies in the field: Cameron Percy, Richard Green, Mark Hensby, Michael Wright, Greg Chalmers, Rod Pampling, Stuart Appleby, Steve Allen (NZ)
The penultimate tournament of the season for the US Seniors. Only the top 36 from the field of 54 will advance to the season ending Finale of the Schwab Cup Championship. It’s hard to go past the top 10 in the rankings and I expect the winner to come from that group. It wold be great to see one of the many Ozzies in the field get a win. Most however will be focused on staying in or climbing into the top 36 so they get to play next week. Stuart Appleby (51st) and Rod Pampling (49th) need big weeks to tee it up again this season
DP World Tour
Tournament: Genesis Championship 2025
Dates: 24-26 October
Course: Woo Jeong Hills County Club Cheonan, South Korea
Purse:USD $4.0M
Ozzies in the field: Adam Scott, Elvis Smylie, Jason Scrivener, David Micheluzzi, Daniel Hillier (NZ), Kazzuma Kobori (NZ)
Adam Scott making an appearance on the DP World Tour no doubt trying to boost his Race to Dubai ranking up from the current 115 and somewhere near the top 70 needed to get a start in Dubai next week. Others are desparatley trying to keep or improve their rankings as this is the last tournament of the regular season. Players like Ozzie David Micheluzzi who is at 108 in the rankings needs a decent week. Only the top 115 keep their full playing status next season.
Hotel Planner Tour
No event this week. The season finale, the Rolex Grand Final is next week in Spain.
Legends Tour
Tournament: Sergio Melpignano Senior Italian Open
Dates: 23-25 October
Course: San Domenico Golf, Puglia
Ozzies in the field: Scott Hend, Michael Long (NZ)
AUS PGA Tour
Tournament: Webex Players Series SA hosted by Greg Blewett
Dates: 23-26 October
Course: Willunga Golf Course
Purse:AUD $200,000
The first of the Webex Series events for the season. Once again this will be a great series where men and women compete for the same trophy and prize money. Top contenders from the men’s side include the top 2 from the Order of Merit – Nathan Barbieri and Cory Crawford. Cameron John played superbly last week in WA and looks to be a real chance here.
