WEEK 5 – WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK

WEEK 5 – Someone not called Scottie Scheffler gets to win on the PGA Tour this week because he is not playing the Farmers Insurance. However Brooks Koepka is making his return to the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines.

LPGA

Tournament: Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions

Dates: 29 Jan – 1 Feb

Course: Lake Nona Golf & Country Club

Purse: USD $2.1M

Ozzies in the field: Lydia Ko (NZ)

The opening tournament of the 2026 season for the LPGA. The field is limited to winners on the LPGA in last two years and Major champions which results in perhaps the smallest field in professional golf for 2026. Currently there are 39 listed starters. Minjee Lee, Hannah Green, and Grace Kim are all eligible to play but are not entered.

Played as a pro-am over the first three days and then the professionals play for the cash on the last day. Fantastic that the LPGA could find four female celebrities out of 42 amateur starters.

WPGA & PGA Tour of Australasia

Tournament: Webex Player Series Murray River in honour of Jarrod Lyle

Dates: 29 Jan – 1 Feb

Course: Cobram Barooga OLD Course

Purse: AUD $250,000

The Webex Series moves to the Murray River for its penultimate tournament. Cameron John is in red hot form and will be a favourite again this week. From the women’s entries it would be good to see Abbie Teasdale have a good week. The weather will be a significant factor with temperatures in the 40’s for each day of the tournament.

PGA Tour

Tournament: Farmers Insurance Open

Dates: 29 Jan – 1 Feb

Course: Torrey Pines

Purse: USD $9.6M

Ozzies in the field: Adam Scott, Jason Day, Cam Davis, Karl Vilips

Scottie Scheffler is giving everyone else a chance to win by sitting out this tournament. None of the top 5 by OWGR are playing but 10 of the group at 6-20 are teeing it up so not a bad field. Jason day is a two time winner (20115, 2018) so might fancy his chances around the famous San Diego layout. Adam Scott’s exemption runs out after this season so he is playing early season events for those vital FedExCup points and entry into signature events.

Korn Ferry Tour

Tournament: The Panama Championship

Dates: 29 Jan – 1 Feb

Course: Club de Golf de Panama

Purse: USD $1.0M

Ozzies in the field: Rhein Gibson

DP World Tour

Tournament: Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship

Dates: 29 Jan – 1 Feb

Course: Royal GC

Purse: USD $2.75M

Ozzies in the field: Jason Scrivener, David Micheluzzi, Anthony Quayle, Ryan Peake, Connor McKinney, Dan Hillier (NZ), Kazuma Kobori (NZ)

The DP World Tour continues it’s International Swing through the Middle East. Last weeks winner Patrick Reed continues his warmup for the LIV Golf Tour and he is the lowest ranked player in the field this week. Dan Hillier must feel that his time is just around the corner. He is at or near the top of the leaderboard most weeks so it would be good to see him claim another DP World Tour title to add to his 2023 British Masters.

Hotel Planner Tour & Sunshine Tour

Tournament: SDC Open

Dates: 29 Jan – 1 Feb

Course: Zebula Golf Estate, Limpopo SA

Purse: USD $375,000

Ozzies in the field: Austin Batista

The HotelPlanner Tour players travel to South Africa this week for their opening tournament of the season and the first of four co-sanctioned tournaments with the Sunshine Tour.
